The smart soothing features are only activated when the built-in monitor notices your baby begins to stir.  The crib bounces for no more than 30 minutes at a time. Once your baby falls asleep again, it stops bouncing. You can gradually reduce the sensitivity, so it takes longer for the motion to kick in. Eventually, your child will learn to self-soothe without needing any movement.
